Musculoskeletal Ultrasound as a Complementary Addition to Electrodiagnosis in Wrist and Hand Clinical Practice Live Session's Date, Time & Location: APTA CSM 2022 Saturday, February 5, 2022 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM Grand Hyatt - Bowie ABC (Balcony) San Antonio, Texas On-Demand option is available for this session HERE Presented by: Dr. Beshoy Ghaly, PT, DPT, RMSK, ECS - Dr. Ryan Boggs, PT, DPT, DSc - Dr. Dustin Arthur, PT, DPT, ECS APTA CSM Website: https://www.apta.org/csm "The wrist and hand are made up of tiny structures and complex representation. In recent years, the interest in managing wrist and hand problems has increased, and specialties have been developed to accommodate this need. Electrodiagnosis is used to diagnose neuromuscular disorders in the wrist and hand, and assists in excluding other conditions that do not originate locally, such as radiculopathy. Point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound advocates urge using both tools to evaluate wrist and hand pathology. This leaves us with questions: Is the neuromuscular ultrasound complementary to electrodiagnostic testing in wrist and hand clinical practice? Can musculoskeletal ultrasound change or confirm the EDX findings? Adding both tools to the wrist and hand clinical examination can be of great value in establishing and/or excluding multiple diagnostic findings. While EMG/NCS is the gold standard in testing nerve and muscle integrity, nerve problems can be secondary to musculoskeletal issues. Musculoskeletal ultrasound can help identify the musculoskeletal pathology mimicking peripheral nerve pathology. Speakers will discuss musculoskeletal ultrasound and EMG/NCS basics in common wrist and hand cases. They also will explore the idea of ultrasound as a complementary addition in wrist and hand clinical practice." CEUs Course Title: Is Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Complementary or Alternative to EMG in Clinical Electrophysiology Practice?
Please visit APTA Learning Center to enroll & access the course HERE Description: "Electromyography/nerve conduction study testing is used to diagnose various muscle and nerve problems in clinical practice. Neuromusculoskeletal ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of muscles, nerves, and tendons. Recent advances and popularity of ultrasound as a point-of-care tool advocates combining EMG and ultrasound in the clinical assessment of neuromuscular disorders. This leaves us with questions. Is the neuromusculoskeletal ultrasound complementary to the EMG/NCS testing in the clinical electrophysiology practice? Can MSK ultrasound change or confirm the EMG findings and change the overall patient plan of care? Adding both tools to clinical electrophysiology practice can be of great value in confirming multiple diagnostic findings. While EMG/NCS is the gold standard in testing nerve and muscle integrity, nerve problems can be secondary to musculoskeletal problems. MSK ultrasound can help in identifying the musculoskeletal pathology mimicking neural pathology."
